Lester is the Minnesota state soil as of 2012, but Lester Park and Lester Prairie are much prettier. Lester Prairie is a city in McLeod County located along the South Fork of the Crow River. Founded in 1886, the city is named for Mrs. Maria Lester, who was the niece of President John Adams and the first cousin of President John Quincy Adams. Lester Park in the east end of Duluth is overlooked by the Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve, boasts miles of hiking and biking trails, and has gorgeous views of Lake Superior, all while the Amity Creek and the Lester River wind throughout. The Lester River Bridge and Lester River Fish Hatchery, built in 1882, are on the National Register of Historic Places.
